The Pakistani Foreign Ministry announced Monday Russian Prime Minister Mikhail E.Fradkov will visit the country on April 11-13 to promote bilateral ties, especially economic cooperation.
"The Russian Prime Minister will hold in-depth discussions with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz," the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tasnim Aslam told a weekly news briefing here. "He will also call on the president and address a gathering of businessmen."
"The major focus of the visit would be on bilateral relations with particular emphasis on ways and means to enhance economic cooperation," she said.
A number of agreements are expected to be signed during the visit relating to Railways, Narcotics control and exchanges in cultural, educational, sports and scientific fields, the spokesperson said.
Aslam said there is a growing convergence of interests between the two countries on issues of regional and international importance.
She said that good prospects of joint collaboration between Pakistan and Russia exist in sectors such as oil and gas, railways, construction of coal, thermal and hydel power generation.
It is expected that the two sides will announce the reactivation of the Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, the spokesperson said.
"The emphasis during the visit would be on establishing a substantive economic agenda to the mutual benefit of both countries," she said.
