Polish President Lech Kaczynski has declared three days of national mournning for Polish pilgrims who died in a bus crash in France, Polish news agency PAP reported Monday.
Kaczynski signed a decree proclaiming three days of national mourning beginning Monday, soon after he returned home from France, where He and his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy traveled to the southeastern French city of Grenoble to visit the injured, including 14 with serious injuries.
Kaczynski has promised to offer help to the victims and their families, and also appreciated France's great goodwill, PAP reported, quoting presidential spokesman Marcin Rosolowski.
Sarkozy said earlier he was "shattered by the scale of the tragedy," and pledged to follow the investigation into its causes "very closely."
At least 26 Polish pilgrims died on Sunday when a coach carrying them overturned and crashed into a ravine near Grenoble. Another 24 people were injured, 14 of them seriously.
