A 12 meter long bus with new passenger-friendly features made a trial run along the Rapid Transit route of southwest China's Chongqing City on Wednesday.
The elongated bus, two to four meters longer than ordinary buses, can accommodate 120 people and run at a maximum speed of 90 kilometre per hour.
With a streamlined, modern look, the bus is designed and manufactured exclusively in Chongqing. The designers took great pains in adding comforts to the bus, like wider doors, larger space between rows of seats, softer hand grips and automatic boarding facilities for disabled people.
Three surveillance cameras are installed on the bus to record every movement in the vehicle and the data will be stored on hard disks. Even if the bus is damaged, the record devices will be safe storing information like an airplane black box.
Mass production of the air-conditioned bus (windows will be sealed shut) will start at the beginning of next year, the first 10 will roll off the assembly line sometime in November. |
