UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Friday met Kenya's negotiating teams in an attempt to boost efforts to end post-election violence.
Ban who arrived in Nairobi earlier in the day from Addis Ababa, where he attended the opening ceremony of the 10th African Union (AU) Summit Thursday, urged both sides to urgently find a solution to the political unrest stoked by disputed December presidential elections.
"I wish you all the best and good luck and have courage. Look beyond the individual interest. Look beyond the parties lines. Now the brighter future of your country is on you," Ban told the government and opposition teams.
The UN chief's encouragement comes as both sides said the talks were progressing well and that they hoped a political solution to the month-long crisis would come soon.
"We are sure that we are going to resolve these issues and we are committed as Kenyans to find a lasting solution," Justice Minister Martha Karua, who is one of the negotiators, said.
Ban is due to meet opposition leader Raila Odinga after holding similar discussions with President Mwai Kibaki on the sidelines of the AU summit.
