Slovakia will not recognize the independent Kosovo for the time being since Kosovo's declaration of independence is in contradiction with the principles of the international law, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Wednesday.
"I consider it a gross mistake that, in my opinion, is causing great tension," Fico told reporters.
The Slovak Foreign Ministry said on Sunday Slovakia will not recognize Kosovo as an independent state for now.
Fico said the Slovak government would review its stance only if some fundamental changes in Kosovo's position in accordance with the international law were made.
"The government of the Slovak Republic would also have to see decisions by relevant international institutions to be able to change its position on Kosovo," Fico said.
