A Turkish military helicopter, which is conducting cross-border offensive against the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) hideouts at Turkish-Iraqi border, went down in an area near the border on Sunday, Turkish military said.
Turkey's General Staff said in a statement posted on its website that a helicopter was subjected to breakage due to an unknown reason in a region close to the border.
It added that related technicians are examining the helicopter.
However, PKK based in Iraq earlier announced that its militants shot down a Turkish military chopper near the border.
"Our armed groups shot down a Turkish Cobra helicopter at about 6:00 p.m. Saturday at an area in Duhuk province near the Iraqi- Turkish border," the PKK said in a statement obtained by Xinhua.
The statement gave no further details but said the Turkish helicopter was pounding the PKK fighters' positions in the area.
Turkish aircraft and artillery continued pounding the mountainous areas in Duhuk province with an aim of uprooting the PKK targets.
The statement noted that the operation will continue in determination till the planned targets are reached.
