The shaking soul voice of Chinese popular singer Jane Zhang, or Zhang Liangying, enchanted Japanese audiences Thursday afternoon at the opening ceremony of the China-Japan Friendly Exchange Year of Youth held at Waseda University in Tokyo.
Newspaper West China City Daily reported that Zhang, a member of a visiting Chinese youth delegation, showcased her preeminent "dolphine voice", a unique singing method featuring whistle voice, at the ceremony, where audiences were also possessed with melodious notes from famous young Chinese pianist Li Yundi.
Zhang sang the theme song of Chinese music drama "Impression West Lake", which is composed by famous Japanese musician Kitaro, inspired by a love story about the West Lake.
She also performed with Japanese singers the pop song "Afterwards" in Chinese and Japanese.
At a post-ceremony interview, Zhang said she was very proud to contribute to the exchange between Chinese and Japanese youngsters.
